FLOWBOARD

Sedentary behaviour is now more prevalent than ever, especially in offices. This is linked to a variety of health problems, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancers and poor mental health. Prolonged periods of inactivity can slow down the metabolism and affect the way the body controls sugar levels.

Flowboard is an intervention that enables office workers to increase the amount of activity and movement at work by incorporating it into their routine.

Flowboard makes use of NEAT activity (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) – small movements such as swinging the legs or tapping the feet. This constant movement boosts the metabolism and increases insulin production and blood circulation. The board can be used in a variety of ways in order to increase the range of small movements performed.

The product is suspended underneath the desk using a non destructive method. Bungee cord is looped around each side of the desk, and secured into a join component that sits under the middle of the desk. The webbing that is attached to the board is then slotted into the join components, hanging the board under the desk.

Set into the board are two pedometers. These collect data about how much movement is done throughout the day, so that users can see a quantifiable improvement. These data can be synced to an online account that is used to set team goals and display activities.
